According to bourgas.ru, in mid-May we are already zealously entering the season of fruits, but they, like everything else, are very expensive today and many citizens are wondering – when will cherries become available in Bulgaria?

At present, sweet cherries are sold at 30-35 leva per kilogram in the markets of the capital.

On the eve of the active cherry season in the Kyustendil region, local producers are already noticing some problems. One of them is related to the lack of pollination of some of the flowers on the trees, which means problems with the harvest. However, this does not happen everywhere. According to the producers of Kyustendil, the price will decrease when the Bulgarian-grown cherries enter the market.

In addition to late frosts this year, rain and wind have limited the number of bees, and thus the pollination of trees.

“Just like every year, we hope for a rise in prices, but this year the cost is higher compared to expensive fertilizers and preparations, and it’s hard to say whether it will be possible to sell at such a price,” said one of the producers of this delicious berry.

This year, it is expected that the price at which fruits should be sold in bulk from the gardens of Kyustendil should not exceed 5 leva.

“Even if we want to take such a price in the range of 4-5 levs in bulk, people are unlikely to be able to afford it against the backdrop of everything that has risen in price. What remains to be given at 5 leva per kilogram of cherries. But still, the price will be higher than last year,” commented Dimitar Sotirov from the Institute of Agriculture in Kyustendil.
