Washington need to compete with Russia for self-affirmation, said the Russian ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov.
According to the diplomat, one gets the feeling that the cold war has not ended for the United States and that the “ghost of the USSR” does not let them live.
“Washington needs to constantly assert itself through competition with Russia. It looks as if the ghost of the Soviet Union still roams the power corridors of the American capital, and the Cold War has not ended at all,” Antonov explained in an interview with Newsweek.
Washington is trying to shift the responsibility to Moscow for huge military spending, fueling conflicts in Russia’s neighboring countries. In addition, according to the ambassador, the United States is trying to completely cut off Europe from Russian relations, which makes the EU dependent on America.
