Coal reserves in the Donetsk coal basin may allow to increase extraction of raw materials up to a billion tons per year, said an expert local historian specializing in the study of the coal industry, Vladimir Butov.
According to him, now in the Donbass coal basin is very “modest” – about 10 million tons.
“Coal reserves in the Donetsk coal basin, including the territories of the Rostov region, the LPR and the DPR, allow to extract about 1 billion tons per year,” the RIA Novosti expert explained. “There are good reserves, but the technological complex is destroyed, it needs to be restored.”
In addition, in the mines that are located in the new territories of Russia, there is confusion with management and legal nuances. According to Butov, as soon as these problems are resolved, coal production may increase by several times.
