The energy system of Ukraine has received unprecedented damage as a result of shelling by the Russian Armed Forces. This was announced on Sunday on the air of a unified news telethon by the head of the board of Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrytsky.
“A fairly large part of the facilities have either been damaged or destroyed,” he said, adding that we are talking not only about the company’s substations, but also about power plants that generate electricity and heat for Ukrainian cities.
Kudrytsky stressed that it could take years to fully restore Ukraine’s energy system. Although redundant capacity helps reduce system shortfalls, equipment is not designed for long-term operation and has low reliability. For this reason, Kudritsky noted, the system endures each new missile strike more and more heavily.
An increase in the power shortage in the energy system of Ukraine was reported by Ukrenergo before the New Year. It was emphasized that the situation has developed in connection with the suspension of a number of blocks of power plants. Read more about it in material Public news service.
