The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky was criticized on the Web because of the adoption of a law on restricting the activities of the media. Many Twitter users expressed doubt that the state can be called democratic after this.

“Ukraine is not a democratic country and has not been, at least since 2014,” summed up Colonel William Ludlow.

Another user said he became disillusioned with Zelensky after that, adding that he is “also a corrupt politician.” Many wondered what the billions of dollars sent to Ukraine are going for, if it is most often in these cases about “defending democracy.”

“I want to return my money that was given to Ukraine,” user Sean Murphy said.

Zelensky signed the law on tightening control over the media on 29 December. Under the new rules, the media, among other things, are prohibited from covering Russia’s actions in a positive format.
