Türkiye will replace foreign weapons with the Navy

Government Turkey signed contracts to replace four types of foreign weapons of the country’s Navy with products of its own production. About weapons that will be replaced by the developments of the Turkish company Roketsan, told Defense News publication.

Anti-ship missiles (ASM) Harpoon produced Boeing will be replaced by Atmaca long-range cruise missiles. Ammunition testing was completed in 2021. It is believed that 11 Turkish Navy platforms will receive the new missile.

Turkish submarines will be equipped with heavy Akya torpedoes, designed to replace the Atlas Elektronik DM2A4 and Lockheed Martin Mk 48 torpedoes. The ammunition has been tested on a Preveze-class submarine. Akya is being integrated into the armament of Gür class submarines. A new torpedo with a hydroacoustic homing head can hit underwater and surface targets.

The Turkish Navy also plans to abandon the Sea Sparrow ship-to-air missiles – they will be replaced by Sapan missiles. The frigate Istanbul has already been equipped with a product with a flight range of more than 35 kilometers.

In October, the Turkish company Baykar reported on the successful completion of high-speed tests of a deck-based unmanned aerial vehicle Bayraktar TB3. The drone, which is a modification of the attack Bayraktar TB2, can be part of the air group of the Turkish ship Anadolu.
