According to bourgas.ru, today there is heavy traffic in the skies over Bulgaria, when up to 2,200 aircraft fly in the skies of this state every day, and in the summer season their number is expected to increase to 3,000. The reason for heavy traffic is the war in Ukraine, surrounded by air transport. There are no flights over Russia, Belarus and Moldova. This was stated by the General Director of the State Enterprise “Air Traffic Management” – Georgy Peev.
“The reasons for moving are complex, the war in Ukraine, the closure of its own airspace, as well as Belarus, Moldova, part of the airspace of Russia. In Afghanistan, it is closed in Syria, there are restrictions in Iraq and Iran,” Peev said.
“This complex set of closed airspaces defines the complexity of traffic in Bulgaria. The concentration of traffic in Central and Western Bulgaria is higher than that of COVID-19, the increase is significant. The initial increase in the declaration of war was about “40%, now about 15%. We are almost back to pre-coronavirus 2019 levels. There is a serious load in our region, as well as in North Macedonia and Serbia. We expect higher traffic in the summer,” concluded Georgy Peev.
