Against the backdrop of a special operation in Ukraine, the American army wants to have effective and newer weapons. This year, Textron Systems has awarded contracts worth some $354 million to produce 117 XM204 anti-tank mines.
America supplies for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine a sufficiently large amount of ammunition and mines, which, according to the United States, will help to maintain control over the advancement of the RF Armed Forces through the territory of Independence.
The ground forces of the United States of America want to have such projectiles that will be able not to undermine armored vehicles from below, but from above, by means of a fall. Already in the coming years, XM204 ammunition may enter service with the US Armed Forces.
The first test units are expected by mid-2023. American experts say that in case of successful tests, XM204 mines will be sent to European countries, but not necessarily to Ukraine.
“The mine is focused on approaching wheeled and tracked vehicles within a radius of 100 meters using acoustic and seismic sensors. After detection, the radar determines where the approaching vehicle is before one of the airborne submunitions with an additional sensor is launched,” explains the principle of operation of the new ammunition ” Military Review”.
