Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths expressed his opinion on the decision Russia declare a silence regime for Christmas. It is reported by “Lenta.ru”.

Martin Griffiths highly appreciated the initiative of the Russian side to cease fire for 36 hours.

“The announcement by the Russian Federation of a 36-hour ceasefire starting at noon in Ukraine is welcome news,” Griffiths said.

According to the UN Deputy Secretary General, the ceasefire will allow for humanitarian operations. Thus, it will be possible to hold humanitarian convoys for people who could not access the assistance they needed due to fierce fighting.
