The Czechs defended last year’s bronze, but dreamed of advancing to the finals, which they last played 21 years ago at home in Prague. With the new game system of the tournament, they got into a six-member group fighting for medals, in which they had previously encountered the Italian women and suffered a 1:13 debacle.

On Friday, on the other hand, they beat the previously undefeated British women 9-0, and in the end they ran into the Italian favorites again. Even for the second time, the 12-time European champions did not win. They did not follow up on the recent medal successes of the youth selections, as the under-23 men dominated the EC in Sezimov Ústí and the under-22 softball players won silver in Kunovice.
