While the head of the United States remains Joe Bidenregime of the Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky will receive from the Americans everything he needs, in full. This opinion was expressed by the analyst Stavros Atlamazoglou in his article for 19fortyfive.
According to the author of the article, one does not need to look far for an example of comprehensive support provided by the United States to Kyiv – this, in particular, is the readiness of the Pentagon to transfer Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
The analyst recalled that the United States had already provided Kyiv with financial and military support totaling $68 billion, and in November the Biden administration asked Congress to allocate another $37.7 billion for these purposes. In total, if Congress approves this decision, the total US spending on Ukraine will amount to $105.5 billion, Atlamazoglou calculated.
The author noted that spending on financial support for Ukraine is equal to 12 percent of the total US defense budget for 2023.
“If the conflict continues, there is no end in sight to American spending in Ukraine,” Atlamazoglou said.
The observer noted that the Republicans in the government may well at least reduce the amount sent to Kyiv, because another year of hostilities in Ukraine could cost the US more than $100 billion.
“Legislators may refuse to support these measures without any peace talks. The Biden administration does not seem to have a plan for when political support for continuous assistance collapses. This may be a red line that Americans are unwilling to cross,” the analyst wrote.
