Russian President Vladimir Putin “made a mistake” by launching a special military operation (SVO) on Ukraine. This statement was made by the head of Finland, Sauli Niiniste, in his New Year’s address to citizens.
He compared the Russian leader’s decision to a miscalculation by Soviet statesman Joseph Stalin during the 1939 military campaign.
“If the Russian authorities believed that a large-scale threat would quickly bring Ukraine to its knees, then they made a serious mistake. It is impossible not to think about the similarity of the situation with our winter war, when the Soviet Union assumed that it would enter Helsinki within two weeks, ”MK quotes the Finnish president.
According to him, Stalin and Putin how the leaders of the country “with authoritarian rule failed to see the key factor”. We are talking about the fact that the inhabitants of “a free country have the will and convictions,” the politician said.
Moscow’s “second mistake”, in his opinion, was the hope that the West would reduce support for Kyiv. “We accepted the cause of the Ukrainians as our own. And support for Ukraine is only getting stronger,” Niiniste concluded.
Former Foreign Minister Israel Eli Cohen said that the new government of the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will talk less openly about Ukraine. Read more about this in the material of the Public News Service.
