Journalists from PC Gamer listed the most important video games in human history. The list is available at website portal.
The media editors divided the rating into three stages, covering a decade – from 1993 to 2023. The top ten included classic games Doom, Quake, Fallout, Age of Empires 2, Deus Ex and others. The authors also noted the release of Windows XP, a popular OS among gamers, and the launch of Steam, a gaming service.
In the period from 2004 to 2013, the most important games were named Half-Life 2, World of Warcraft, Minecraft, Plants vs Zombies, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Journalists also recalled the release of the Oculus VR headset and the advent of early access to the Steam service.
In the last 10 years, the main games according to PC Gamer have been The Witcher 3, PUBG, Disco Elysium, Valheim, Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077. In addition, the authors noted the importance of the appearance of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 video card, the start of sales of the Steam Deck console and the release accessories for gamers under the Valve brand. At the same time, journalists recalled the coronavirus pandemic, which seriously affected the video game market.
In early October, the gaming edition EDGE amounted to list of the 100 greatest games in history. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was named the best game; Dark Souls and Super Mario 64 also made it into the top 3.
