Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine, Chief Sanitary Doctor of the Republic Igor Kuzin said that hepatitis A is “spreading quite quickly” throughout the country and threatens the health of the majority of its residents.

In an interview with RBC-Ukraine, he said that the number of citizens with immunity to this infection is “quite small.”

“The majority of Ukrainians who have not had Botkin’s disease or viral hepatitis A do not have immunity,” the speaker emphasized.

In order for the body to gain immunity to the virus, it is necessary to get vaccinated, he clarified. The Ukrainian official added that vaccination against hepatitis A is not included in the national calendar of preventive vaccinations.
