Minister of Internal Affairs Germany Nancy Feather said that the country’s authorities are taking the necessary measures to combat illegal migration. Among other measures, we are talking about building working contacts with colleagues from the Czech Republic and Austria. The minister shared this information during an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt Am Sonntag.
Feather noted that the opposition to illegal migration is a long-standing process that is carried out both at the country level and in the pan-European space. According to her, the closest contacts in the field of combating illegal migration have been established between Germany and Austria and the Czech Republic, which have begun to exercise border control with Slovakia. This week, a plan of joint activities with Switzerland was also agreed upon, including, among other things, joint regulation of the border.
The minister also announced the appointment of a special representative who will have to conclude subsequent migration agreements with those countries from which migrants enter Germany. It is assumed that Joachim Stamp will be appointed to the position, who will take up his duties from the beginning of the coming year.
