Government spokesman Germany Christiane Hoffmann spoke about the connections of her country’s leadership with the Russian authorities.
According to her, Berlin continues to maintain contacts with Moscow. “I can say that it’s not at all the case that there are no contacts with Russia,” the speaker of the country’s Cabinet of Ministers noted during a briefing on January 2.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other representatives of the European Union (EU) “have direct contact” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the politician said. Russian-German contacts take place at different levels, she added.
Earlier, the Public News Service reported that German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht got into a scandal because of the New Year’s address, in which she spoke about the conflict in Ukraine. Ulrike Franke, an analyst at the Center for the European Council on Foreign Relations, accused Berlin of being crazy because of her words about meeting “wonderful people.”
