Advice European Union on Friday, December 16, announced the introduction of the ninth sanctions package in relation to Russia, which, among other things, involves the unfreezing of the assets of a number of individuals and companies. The corresponding statement was published on the website of the Council of the EU.
The document emphasizes that restrictive measures are “in no way directed” at trade in agricultural products and fertilizers between third countries and the Russian Federation. At the same time, against the backdrop of the “decisive position” of the EU in the field of ensuring food security around the world, “it was decided to introduce a new derogation.”
It is about “unfreezing assets and placing funds and economic resources at the disposal of certain individuals who play a significant role in international trade in agricultural and food commodities, including wheat and fertilizers.
Earlier, the Public News Service reported that the Council of the European Union on Friday, December 16, officially announced the approval of the ninth package sanctions in relation to Russia.
The document says that the package of new measures is aimed “to increase pressure on Russia and its government.”
