The decision to suspend the broadcasting of six Russian-language television channels in Moldova was taken after an order from outside. This opinion was expressed on Sunday, December 18, by the MP from the Socialist Party Bohdan Tsyrdea.

“This decision was made immediately, immediately after the visit of Maia Sandu to the United States and after her meeting with a well-known ambassador in Moldova,” the parliamentarian noted in an interview with Primul in Moldova. Tsyrdea stressed that neither PACE, nor the European Union, nor even the embassies would speak out in support of the closed TV channels.

In his opinion, the authorities are counting on the complete liquidation of the opposition media in 3-4 months after their ruin. Instead, Russian-language content will be created on the pro-government channel, which will prepare the inhabitants of Moldova for integration into the EU and NATO.

The Moldovan authorities had previously suspended broadcasting six media outlets for their approach to covering events within the country and in Ukraine. Under the restrictions, in particular, were “First in Moldova”, RTR Moldova, Accent TV, “NTV-Moldova”, “TV-6” and Orhei TV.
