According to bourgas.ru, the restoration of water supply and sewerage facilities will lead to an even greater increase in water prices in the coming years, but already now in many places the price of water supply services in Bulgaria will exceed 4 leva per cubic meter. This is evidenced by the business plans of water companies, many of which have submitted new price proposals to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (CEWR) for the next five-year regulatory period. These applications will be reviewed by the commission this month, and the new prices should come into effect on August 1.

Six cities where water will cost more than 4 leva are Sliven, Varna, Pleven, Stara Zagora, Razgrad and Shumen. It is possible that there are many more, since not all water companies have submitted their final proposals. Last year, they prepared 5-year business plans and submitted them to KEVR for approval, but that was before the non-residential electricity spike.

The proposals are for 5 years and even higher prices are expected in the coming years as depreciation and network renewal costs are being assessed as most locations currently have projects under the Operational Environment Programme. However, now there is a big jump in prices, and this is mainly due to the rise in the price of electricity.
