According to the astronomical forecast, 2023 will begin with beautiful celestial phenomena, a series of which will be opened by a powerful meteor shower.

The New Year meteor shower of Quadrantida can be observed on the night of January 3-4, 2023. At the peak of the activity of the Quadrantids meteor shower, up to 110 meteors per hour are expected, which is 1-2 meteors per minute, provided that the sky is clear, the Moscow Planetarium reported. Experts have named the best time to observe starfall – from midnight to dawn, when the radiant is as high as possible above the eastern horizon. The next meteor shower is predicted only in the spring: on April 22, the Lyrids will fall from the sky.

These are not all the astronomical surprises of the beginning of the year. On January 4, the Earth will be at perihelion, at its closest distance from the Sun, making it possible to see the Sun’s largest disk in 2023. Formerly online edition “Teacher’s newspaper” told that in 2023 the Russians will be able to see two of the four eclipses. In addition, the Russians will see several meteor showers and the full moon at the point of orbit closest to Earth.
