The apartments of Ryazan pensioners were robbed by a woman who presented herself as a social worker

Operatives of the criminal investigation department detained a recidivist suspected of a series of thefts of savings from pensioners in the city of Ryazan. This was reported by the website of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs on May 13.

Since the beginning of February of this year, the police began to receive reports of the theft of money from pensioners’ apartments. Each time the victims told about a certain woman. She presented herself as a social worker and entered the homes of pensioners, allegedly to help in the exchange of banknotes on the eve of the monetary reform. The woman took the savings, and in exchange left paper postcards that looked like banknotes.

In addition, under the pretext of paying social benefits, the guest could persuade elderly Ryazan residents to show where their savings are kept. Then, distracting the attention of the owners, she stole money.

On the facts of theft, criminal cases were opened under Part 2 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud) and part 3 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft).

Law enforcement officers managed to establish that a 45-year-old resident of the Tula region was involved in the theft. The police went to the neighboring region, where they detained the intruder. It turned out that the woman had previously been convicted more than once for a series of thefts and frauds in pensioners’ apartments in the Vladimir region. She spent more than seven years in prison.

According to preliminary information, the recidivist specially came to the city of Ryazan, chose pensioners on the street, escorted them home. She entered the home under the guise of a social worker and deceived the elderly. To date, eight facts of theft have been established. Ryazan pensioners aged 72 to 89 suffered, the total damage was 713 thousand rubles.
