With the assertion that the solution Moldovan government to stop the licenses of Russian-language television channels is an attempt to introduce politically motivated censorship, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mariah Zakharova.

“We consider this ban as an unprecedented act of political censorship, as an outrage on the principle of media pluralism and a gross violation of the right to freedom of access to information, to which the political leadership of the republic regularly declares its adherence,” reads the text of a publication distributed on the official portal of the department.

The representative of the department pointed to the fact that the local government takes away from a huge number of citizens who speak Russian all the ways to get news in the language that they themselves have chosen, and media workers are left without a livelihood.

She appealed to organizations operating within the framework of this topic with a call to comment on this topic, and to take all possible actions to normalize the situation.

Recall that in Moldova, the leader of the ruling party “Action and Solidarity”, Chairman of the Parliament Igor Grosu issued a statement that he was looking for ways to replace the phrase “Moldovan language” with the phrase “Romanian language” in the country’s Constitution.
