“Sputnik Lithuania editor-in-chief Marat Kasem was detained by the Latvian special services in Riga,” the publication says.

It is emphasized that on January 5, a meeting was held court, during which Kasem’s lawyer called for the detainee to be released on bail. However, the court ruled that he would be held in custody.

According to the media, Kasem was detained on suspicion of espionage and violation of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation.
