The head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, will take part in the procession of the Immortal Regiment with a portrait of his grandfather, Nur-Magomed Balovich Melikov. He announced this on his telegram channel.

“I am sure that every Dagestan family has its own story about the heroism and dedication of grandfathers and great-grandfathers who fought on the fields of the Great Patriotic War.

So that as many people as possible learn about them, on the eve of May 9, we continue a good tradition – we hold the Immortal Regiment campaign both in the format of a procession and on online platforms.

I also decided to participate in it with a portrait of my grandfather – Nur-Magomed Balovich Melikov. He was drafted into the 345th Rifle Division, which was being formed in Dagestan, participated in the defense of Sevastopol, and in the summer of 1942, after being seriously wounded, he was listed as missing. We think that he was buried in one of the mass graves in Kislovodsk. I have always been proud of my grandfather and knew that his death was not in vain. He and thousands of other Dagestanis contributed to the Victory,” the head said.

As part of the “Banner of Victory” campaign, the project “Immortal Regiment of the Administration of the Head and Government of the Republic of Dagestan” was launched on the official website of the Head of the Republic of Dagestan, where administration employees talk about their heroic ancestors who participated in those immemorial events.

“Friends, I invite you to follow this example and also take part in a commemorative action.

To be the heirs of the Victory is a great honor and responsibility!” Sergey Melikov urged the Dagestanis.
