United States significantly ahead Russia in terms of liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to Europe. Since the beginning of November 2023, the US market share has been 52 percent, while the Russian Federation has only about 13 percent. reports “Kommersant” with reference to data from S&P Global Commodity Insights analysts.
In third place in terms of LNG supplies to Europe was Algeria. Since the beginning of November, its share has accounted for about 11 percent of the total volume. Generally to the European Union (EU) and Great Britain Since the beginning of November, it has been possible to increase LNG imports by 76 percent compared to the October figure – to 7.39 million tons. Most of the cargo went to France (1.66 million tons), Spain (1.04 million), Great Britain (970 thousand) and Netherlands (890 thousand).
Analysts attribute the sharp increase in LNG supplies to Europe to a number of factors. Among the key reasons, they named the cooling in the region and the completion of preparations for the start of the heating season. Europe continues to manage to win competition for LNG supplies from Asian countries. This is largely due to the shallowing of the Panama Canal, which is why the United States has to restrain the supply of its own liquefied fuel to Asia.
Earlier, the Telegraph newspaper, citing data from Eurostat analysts reportedthat in 2023, EU countries purchased Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) worth 6.1 billion euros (more than 6.6 billion dollars). European countries accounted for more than half of the LNG exported by Russia, and Spain and France entered the top three buyers of hydrocarbons from the Russian Federation after China.
