Russians were predicted to return to the 90s amid the cancellation of confirmation of compulsory motor liability insurance

Possible abolition of the obligation of motorists to present an MTPL policy when registering a vehicle (the corresponding bill was adopted in the first reading State Duma) could lead to a return to the 90s and to “showdowns” on the roads, they said RIA News in the Russian Union of Auto Insurers (RUA).

To avoid the scenario predicted by insurers, they propose maintaining control by exercising it through photographic recording. The RSA clarified that the launch of such a mechanism should occur simultaneously with changes related to compulsory motor liability insurance.

On November 7, deputies approved a bill that proposes to exclude the MTPL policy from the list of documents required for car registration. According to current legislation, the new owner of a car must purchase insurance before registering it, but no later than 10 days after purchasing the car.

Earlier it became known that the Russians allowed conclude short-term MTPL contracts for a period from one day to three months. The possibility of agreements valid for a year or several months also remains available.
