Russians warned about new rules for traveling abroad

On December 11, a law restricting travel abroad for certain categories of citizens comes into force. About the new rules in an interview with the Prime agency told Dean of the Faculty of Law National Research University Higher School of Economics Vadim Vinogradov.

According to Vinogradov, amendments to the law “On the procedure for leaving the Russian Federation and entering the Russian Federation” clarify the grounds on which a foreign, diplomatic or service passport can be invalidated.

Among them: change by their owners of last name, first name, patronymic, date and place of birth, as well as change of gender and expiration of the document. Also, grounds for declaring a document invalid will be termination of citizenship or cancellation of the decision to acquire citizenship of the owner.

It is noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will keep records of invalid passports. According to the lawyer, this is necessary to ensure that citizens do not use outdated documents. In addition, the law provides for the transfer of a foreigner for storage to the issuing authority for those who are restricted from leaving the country in connection with conscription for military or alternative civilian service.
