The cost of the popular delicacy in annual terms decreased by four percent, to six thousand rubles per kilogram. At the same time, the demand for caviar in October-November on average across the country increased by 21 percent.
Analysts attributed the price decline to the success of salmon salmon. At the beginning of November the head Rosrybolovstvo Ilya Shestakov stated on increasing the volume of extraction and production of the delicacy. Since the beginning of the year, fishermen mined more than 607 thousand tons of salmon – this is the second figure after the record year of 2018. Then the production volumes amounted to 676 thousand tons of fish.
According to Rosstat, from January to September, 21.1 thousand tons of salmon caviar were produced in Russia – 2.7 times more compared to last year. At the same time, according to the president of the Association of Industrial and Trade Enterprises of the Fish Market Vitaly Kornevabefore the New Year holidays, when the demand for caviar increases, prices may begin to rise again.
To reduce fish prices, authorities offered start selling fish products on the site St. Petersburg International Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange (SPbMTSB). According to Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) this will help demonopolize the market, as well as create uniform terms of transactions for everyone. The opportunity to sell and buy fish on the exchange may appear in the second quarter of 2024.
