Russians and Orthodox Christians celebrating Christmas were congratulated by the President of the country Vladimir Putin. The head of state called the holiday “bright and loved by all.”

“It inspires people to good deeds and aspirations, serves to establish in society such enduring spiritual values ​​and moral guidelines as mercy, compassion, goodness and justice,” the head of state said in his congratulation.

Putin also pointed to the creative contribution of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) and Christian denominations of Russia into the unity of society.

“Such a great, multifaceted, truly selfless work deserves the most sincere respect,” Putin concluded.

Earlier, the chairman of the synodal department for relations between the church, society and the media of the Moscow Patriarchate, Vladimir Legoyda, said that the state supported peacekeeping spirit ROC. Legoyda emphasized that a full-fledged truce is possible only with good will on both sides.
