The president Finland Sauli Niinistö announced his intention to continue cooperating with Russia due to the presence of a common border. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

The leader of Finland answered the question of the citizens on the air of the YLE radio station on Sunday, where he was asked about his vision of the further development of relations with Russia. Niinistö replied that he considered it important to maintain cooperation. “… if only because we have a common border that is over a thousand kilometers long,” said the President of Finland.

Niinistö added that it will take some time to resume cooperation. He specified that a full recovery should be expected during the tenure of the next president.

Niinistö’s term as President of Finland expires in 2024.

Recall that on December 6, when the Independence Day of the republic was celebrated in Finland, the Russian flag was burned. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation called it “an unacceptable act of desecration of the symbol of our country” and declared demarche.
