Russian Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin was recognized as the first star of December in the National Hockey League (NHL). The corresponding message was published on the league website.

The publication states that during the past month, the 37-year-old athlete managed to score 22 points, including 13 goals and nine assists. Over the month, Ovechkin played in 15 matches.

It is also noted that the Russian hockey player Named NHL Player of the Month for the first time in two years. The last time this event happened was in October 2021.
