Two-time Olympic figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu divorced his wife three months after their wedding. This is reported by Kyodo.
According to the source, the reason was the persecution of the wife by fans and excessive attention from the media. “After thinking about the future, I decided to get a divorce because I want my partner to be happy. And I want this happiness not to be accompanied by any restrictive measures,” said the athlete.
Hanyu announced about leaving the sport in the summer of 2022. The skater emphasized that he would no longer participate in competitions, but would not give up training on the ice.
Hanyu won Olympic gold in men’s singles skating twice – in 2014 and 2018. The Japanese also became world champion twice. In 2016, performing at the Autumn Classic International, Hanyu became the first in the history of figure skating to perform a quadruple loop.
