The Washington Post columnist Stephen Erlanger said that the Ukrainian conflict demonstrated Europe’s complete dependence on the United States for defense.

According to the journalist, it was Washington that led the response to the conflict, mobilized allies, organized military assistance to Ukraine, and sent the largest amount of military equipment and intelligence to the republic.

Erlanger noted that due to the EU’s lack of interest in the field of financing and development of the European autonomous defense system, the Union countries have to turn to ready-made solutions, in particular to American weapons.

“ France infuriated Germany by urgently purchasing American F-35 fighters instead of buying European ones or even waiting for the long-delayed Franco-German-Spanish Future Combat Air System jet project,” the article’s author said, pointing out that these aircraft The EU will receive only after 2035.

Currently, a special operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continues in Ukraine. Its beginning was announced on February 24, 2022, by Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, the purpose of military action is to demilitarize the neighboring country and denazify its authorities.

The decision to conduct the operation was the reason for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.
