Ministry Internal Affairs of Russia has prepared a draft law that will eliminate the possibility of fictitious marriages and fictitious establishment of paternity for foreigners who seek to legalize their position in the country. This was reported to TASS by the official representative of the department, Irina Volk.

According to her, now the bill is on interdepartmental coordination. Over the past 11 months in Russia about 400 residence permits for foreigners were annulled because their marriages with citizens of the Russian Federation were declared invalid by the court.

The Law “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation” provides that foreigners and stateless persons can apply for a simplified acquisition of Russian citizenship if they have been married to a Russian citizen for at least three years, and also without observing this period if they have a common child.

Shortly before this, it was reported that the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation called for intensifying the fight against crime among migrants. The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that the level of crime among foreigners who come to Russia is growing. In four out of five cases, the crimes are related to drug trafficking.

Formerly Public News Service informed that the Ministry of Internal Affairs published on the federal portal of draft regulatory legal acts a draft order providing for changes in the format of driver’s licenses.
