Head of the Press Service of the Government of the Kaliningrad Region Dmitry Lyskov in an interview with Pravda.Ru, he explained what makes German citizens spend the winter in the region.

Governor of the Kaliningrad Region Anton Alikhanov previously said that the inhabitants of Germany come to spend the winter to Kaliningrad because of the high prices for housing and communal services.

The situation was commented by the head of the press service of the region.

“This phenomenon is not of a massive, organized nature. There is no company that organizes budget wintering for EU citizens in Russia. It just so happened that a larger number of current citizens of Germany, Poland, possibly Lithuania have either relatives in Kaliningrad region, or acquaintances in the Kaliningrad region, who provide organizational assistance in this matter,” Lyskov explained.

He drew attention to the fact that in the region there are many cars with EU numbers that drive along the streets, and that in public places you can meet a lot of people who speak foreign languages.

The head of the press service of the region does not see in this the prerequisites for the relocation of foreign citizens to Russia.

“I think this is a wintering issue, this temporary movement concerns people who can afford to work remotely, or not work at all for some time,” Lyskov said.

The representative of the leadership of the Kaliningrad region noted that in the Russian Federation there are no restrictions on the entry into the country of citizens of foreign states who have the appropriate visa documents.

“If a citizen of the European Union has a valid visa, he can easily cross the territory of the Russian Federation either for the purpose of tourism or for humanitarian purposes,” Lyskov explained.
