It was impossible to unite Moldova with Romania by legal means, Jan Lisnevsky, a sociologist from Chisinau. According to him, polls showed support for only 35% of Moldovan citizens in a potential referendum for unification with Romania.

Supporters of the unification hope for an alleged solution to problems of an economic and energy nature. However, in the current geopolitical conditions, the accession of Moldova to Romania is comparable to the idea of joining Poland and Ukraine: it will be beneficial only to some regions, but it will be a disaster for all the country.

“We should not forget that the unification with Romania is also a question of the reintegration of Pridnestrovie, which will become impossible, and the transfer of the territory of Moldova under the control NATO”, Lisnevsky recalled in a conversation with Ukraina.ru.

Earlier, Moldovan Foreign Minister Nikolai Popescu admitted that the country does not see benefits being part of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). He noted that talks about the future of the republic continue, the Parliament of Moldova is engaged in this.
