Vladimir Legoyda, chairman of the synodal department for relations between the church, society and the media of the Moscow Patriarchate, said that the state supported the peacekeeping spirit ROC. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“The primate of the Russian Church, following an ancient tradition, proposed to establish a truce on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, which would allow people to attend festive services in peace and security,” he said.

“Once again, the Church testified to its peacekeeping spirit and was supported by the Russian state.”

Legoyda emphasized that a full-fledged truce is possible only with good will on both sides.

Formerly Public News Service wrotethat Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ called for a Christmas truce in Ukraine and Donbass. As a result, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian Defense Ministry supported this proposal, Kyiv did not.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared about waiting for the start of negotiations on the country’s accession to the European Union. It is noted that he did this after holding online talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
