If the EU and NATO issue a joint statement calling on Russia withdraw immediately armed forces from the territory of Ukraine, then what significance will it have? This question was answered by Pravda.Ru political scientist, publicist Leonid Krutakov.
The expert noted that so far this is just an intention. But if we assume that such a communique will be issued, then this is not a matter of influencing Ukraine, but a matter of additional confirmation of the consolidation of the West against Russia.
“The impact is not on Russia, but the issue of the internal problems of the West itself in matters of attitude to Russia and Ukrainian history. This is what it means: the unity of the very West, which for a long time walked in the same US ranks, is violated and very strong, because the costs within formatting are part of this project, including gas transportation schemes and so on,” the source said.
According to him, the West bears these costs unevenly. The main burden lies on Europe. And in Europe, the main burden lies on the countries of Eastern Europe and Ukraine, on whose territory the hostilities are taking place directly.
Therefore, of course, contradictions and mutual claims begin here. This is a way of political consolidation around the Ukrainian issue against Russia. It is difficult to judge how effective it is, the political scientist concluded.
