Japan plans to create two special units within the ground self-defense forces. They will deal with the management of hypersonic ballistic missiles and their deployment on the islands of Kyushu and Hokkaido, writes Kyodo.
Similar units are planned to be formed by 2026. In terms of timing, this coincides with the plans of the Japanese authorities to deploy modernized “type 12 anti-ship missiles.” Their flight range is more than a thousand kilometers.
The Mainichi newspaper previously wrote that Tokyo is studying the development of guided missiles with a range of up to three thousand kilometers. The Nikkei newspaper reported that Japan and the United States are considering the possibility of conducting a joint study of technologies for intercepting hypersonic ballistic missiles. This will make it possible to shoot down missiles at heights that are still inaccessible to anti-missile systems.
Earlier, the Public News Service reported that the UN Deputy Secretary General, High Representative for disarmament Izumi Nakamitsu said that states that supply weapons to Kyiv should ensure that weapons do not fall into the hands of third parties.
