The first day of 2023 may be the warmest in the history of meteorological observations in St. Petersburg and Moscow. This was stated by the head of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand, his words leads TASS.

Vilfand recalled that the record value for January 1 was previously recorded in 2017, when the temperature rose to +4.5 degrees. Vilfand expects that in 2023 the indicator will approach this value and be able to surpass it.

Now the Hydrometeorological Center predicts that the air temperature on the day of January 1 will be from +3 to +5 degrees. In this case, moderate precipitation is possible, mainly in the form of rain. Strong gusts of wind are also possible. The roads are icy in places.

As notes St. Petersburg’s chief weather forecaster Alexander Kolesov, after the minus temperature recorded on the night of December 30, the temperature will go towards positive values. The thaw is expected to last three days, accompanied by rain and ice. Temperatures will begin to return to negative values only on the night of January 2.
