The New Year in St. Petersburg began with anomalous heat. Alexander Kolesov, the head of the Hydrometeorological Center of the northern capital, spoke about this on Sunday in his Telegram channel.
According to him, on the first day of 2023, the warmest New Year’s Eve in the history of meteorological observations was recorded in St. Petersburg. The previous record was reached in 1937 and was +2.9 degrees.
In addition, January 1 will be the warmest day for the city – by 5:00 the air temperature approached 4.8 degrees, while the maximum temperature of the day was considered to be +4.5 degrees – an indicator of 2017.
The day before, meteorologists announced in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region “yellow” level weather hazard. The city recorded wind gusts up to 15 meters per second. The warning was in effect until 21:00.
