The Ministry of Education and Science began implementing the Youth Laboratories program in 2019. But in 2022, the department has significantly revised the requirements for youth laboratories. This was told by the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov.

The head of the Ministry of Education and Science explained that in 2022 the ministry revised the requirements for youth laboratories, as well as their number. Areas were prioritized. Valery Falkov clarified that, first of all, it is microelectronics. According to him, most laboratories have been created in this area.

In second place are agriculture, new medicine and new energy. The Minister of Science and Higher Education specified on the air of the Rossiya-24 TV channel that these are the main areas for creating youth laboratories. A total of 240 were created across the country in 2022.

The minister also spoke about the reformatting of the mega-grant program for scientists in the past year. As Falkov explained, if earlier the research team could count on an annual grant of 30 million rubles for 3 years, then from 2023 it will already be a grant for 5 years and 100 million rubles each. At the same time, a young scientist for large-scale research can also receive a grant for 5 years of 30 million with the possibility of extension for 3 years.
