Candidate of Medical Sciences, immunologist Nikolai Kryuchkov explained what is more dangerous – influenza or coronavirus.
In an interview with Sputnik radio, Kryuchkov noted that a parallel increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 and influenza was recorded in Russia. He noted that each of them can be severe, however, coronavirus is number one in terms of pathogenicity and lethality.
According to the immunologist, when comparing influenza and coronavirus, it is necessary to remember and take into account the medium and long-term consequences, such as post-COVID syndrome, which delays the recovery process after COVID-19. Kryuchkov stressed that the flu does not have such consequences.
In addition, the number of new cases of COVID-19 detected in Russia over the past day has again exceeded seven thousand. At the same time, 1,386 people were hospitalized, which is 13.8% less than the day before.
As previously reported by the Public News Service, the head Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova spoke about the work of Russian scientists on a single vaccine from influenza and COVID-19. She added that these studies are “quite successful.”
