The Meshchansky District Court of Moscow sentenced politician Ilya Yashin to 8.5 years in prison in the case of “fakes” about the Russian army. Prosecutor Sergei Belov requested 9 years in a general regime colony. About it informs Mediazona correspondent from the courtroom.
How the verdict was pronounced. Judge Oksana Goryunova began announcing the verdict at 13:43 – almost two hours late – and finished at 15:00. The meeting hall was filled with spectators, some of them were sent to the broadcasting hall. The queue of those wishing to support Yashin in the hall did not end by the beginning of the meeting.
During the meeting, the judge read out the response of the Ministry of Defense to the inquiry of the investigator, which begins with the words: “The Russian Federation is not at war with Ukraine.”

Yashin pleaded not guilty and said he was quoting foreign media. The judge also does not believe that Yashin cited other people’s positions, and not his own statements, as the defense claimed.
Yashin’s reaction to the verdict. A recording of Yashin’s words appeared on the politician’s telegram channel, which he transmitted through a lawyer. Ilya Yashin believes that “changes are not far off and soon we will have a lot of work to restore justice and humanism in our country.”
“But we also have no reason to be sad, because we won this trial, friends. The process was conceived as a denunciation of the “enemy of the people” in my person, but turned into an anti-war tribune. We spoke the truth about war crimes and called for an end to the bloodshed. And in response, they heard a hodgepodge of slogans from the Cold War era, which was confusedly voiced by the prosecutor, ”says Yashin.
