In 2022, the New Year’s feast in St. Petersburg will cost 7.5% more than in 2021, calculated “Paper”. This was influenced by the rise in prices for meat and alcohol, caused by inflation against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and the disappearance of cheap wines from store shelves.

“Paper” downloaded data on prices for products that are traditionally present on the New Year’s table from Rosstat. In addition, using classic recipes, we calculated how much different New Year’s dishes will cost.

In 2022, an Olivier in St. Petersburg costs an average of 362 rubles. Its price increased by 4.76% compared to 2021, calculated “Paper” based data about the cost of salad ingredients from Rosstat. At the same time, according to our calculations, over the past five years, the biggest jump in prices for Olivier was in the pandemic year of 2020, when the price of lettuce rose by more than 20.5%.

Association “Rusprodsoyuz” countedthat the composition of an average Olivier salad for four people includes: 500 grams of potatoes, 200 grams of carrots, 4 chicken eggs, 300 grams of boiled sausage, 200 grams of mayonnaise, 100 grams of onions, 380 grams of green peas and 400 grams of pickles.

How the cost of ingredients has changed:

  • Boiled sausage has risen in price the most. If in 2021 it cost about 149 rubles, then in 2022 it will cost almost 163 rubles.
  • The prices for mayonnaise (from 55 to 62 rubles), peas (from 26.4 to 33.3 rubles) and carrots (from 7.2 to 8.7 rubles) increased.
  • At the same time, the cost of cucumbers, eggs and onions remained practically unchanged.

In 2022, the New Year’s dinner will cost Petersburgers 6,470 rubles, found out “Paper” using Rosstat data. Compared to last year, the price increased by 7.5%.

We included in the calculation dishes, foods and drinks that are traditionally bought for the New Year’s feast: Russian salad, herring under a fur coat, two types of aspic (with pork and beef), vegetable salad, sausage and cheese cuts, three bottles of champagne, three bottles of wine and a bottle vodka.

Most of the New Year’s dishes have risen in price as jelly with beef – in 2022, its cost increased by 150 rubles and now stands at 1.25 thousand rubles. At the same time, the price of jelly with pork has not grown so critically – by 27 rubles, the ingredients for it can be purchased for 903 rubles.

The price of wine has also risen. Three bottles of table wine have risen in price by 100 rubles: they will cost 1.26 thousand rubles. The cost of three bottles of sparkling wine has grown by the same amount – they have risen in price to 1.1 thousand rubles. Previously “Paper” figured outthat wines cheaper than 500 rubles have practically disappeared from store shelves.

In 2022, the cost of vodka also increased (from 578 to 617 rubles), cheese slices (from 344 to 397 rubles) and sausage slices (from 326 to 343 rubles).

At the same time, the price of herring under a fur coat and vegetable salad remained practically unchanged.
