Honorary citizen of Ryazan Vladimir Popov passed away at the age of 102

Vladimir Alekseevich Popov, veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Honorary Citizen of the city of Ryazan, passed away at the age of 102. This was announced on April 30 by the website of the administration of Ryazan.

Vladimir Alekseevich in 1940 was drafted into the Red Army to serve in the 34th Infantry Regiment on the territory of Belarus. He took his first battle early in the morning on June 22, 1941 near Brest. During the Great Patriotic War he served in the special forces of the Chernihiv division. Participated in many offensive operations to liberate Western Ukraine, Poland, Germany. He took part in the Vistula-Oder operation. He finished his military career on the Elbe, where he met Pobeda. He was awarded the Order of Glory and the Order of the Patriotic War.

After the war, he chose literature as his profession – he worked as a journalist, graduated from the Dushanbe State Pedagogical Institute. For many years, Vladimir Alekseevich was associated with the Ryazan State University named after S.A. Yesenin, Faculty of Russian Language and Literature, Department of Literature. He spent 47 years in the student audience.
