In April 2022, an increase in charter flights was recorded at Sofia Airport.
According to bourgas.ru, an increase in charter flights at Sofia Airport was recorded in April 2022. The statistics of the capital’s airport show that during this period 194 charter aircraft took off and landed, and the number of passengers carried by them amounted to 26,241 people.
However, if we look at total passenger traffic, we notice that passenger traffic in April is still below the level of the same month in pre-pandemic 2019, or more than 91,000 less.
Passenger traffic on international scheduled flights decreased by 18% compared to April 2019. Last month, 457,524 passengers were carried, 101,000 fewer than before COVID-19.
A decrease of 27% is also observed for domestic passengers. In April this year, there were 15,346 of them, which is more than 5,000 less than in the same period in 2019.
Almost 7% less than before the 2019 pandemic is accounted for by air travel. In total, 4,652 aircraft took off and landed in April 2022.
An increase of more than 6% in handled cargo and postal items was noted – 2,014 units compared to the level of 2019.
