General Buzhinsky told how the Russian Federation will respond to Sweden’s admission to NATO
The membership of Finland and Sweden in NATO formally allows Russia to build up its military capabilities in the north-west of the country. This was announced by the ex-deputy head of the Main Directorate of International Military Cooperation of the Russian Ministry of Defense, retired Lieutenant General Evgeny Buzhinsky, reports the Arguments and Facts publication.
He said that the Finnish and Swedish armed forces have full operational compatibility with the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance, although before that the Scandinavian states did not claim membership in the military bloc.
“Finland and Sweden have always actively participated in NATO exercises. So, in fact, their entry into the alliance does not change anything. This is simply a legal fixation of long-established cooperation,” the military man emphasized.
He is convinced that the Russian Federation was ready for such a development of events. The subsequent strengthening of the military presence on the border with Finland will be a natural step for Moscow and a kind of response to NATO decisions, he concluded.
Earlier it was reported that Stoltenberg called on Hungary to approve Sweden’s membership in NATO. More about this read the material Public News Service.
