Border guards Finland used gas canisters against a group of people at the Finnish border crossing Niirala on the border with Russia. This was announced by the deputy head of the border service North Karelia in Finland Samuli Murtonen reports TASS.
According to the official, there was a group of migrants at the border checkpoint who did not obey the orders and words of the border guard. “To bring the situation under control, we had to use the mildest possible means, which was gas spraying,” the Yle television and radio channel quoted Murtonen as saying.
After using the gas, one person was injured, he was examined and provided with the necessary first aid. Murtonen did not specify what kind of gas was used, but, according to him, it is the gas that border guards usually use.
On Saturday, November 18, the Finnish government ordered close the four largest in terms of passenger traffic and those closest to Petersburg checkpoints – Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra and Niirala – on the border with Russia until February 18, 2024.
Previously, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov commented the decision of the Finnish authorities to close the checkpoint on the border with Russia. According to him, Russia has never threatened Finland in recent history, therefore the chosen Helsinki the path of confrontation is a big mistake.
