Minister of Defense Finland Antti Häkkänen admitted that the decision to close checkpoints on the border with Russia will bring a number of problems. About it writes Yle.
In particular, he indicated that people with two passports – Finnish and Russian – would suffer. At the same time, the minister noted, Finland will not retreat from its decision.
“Closed borders are associated with problems in everyday life for citizens, including Russian citizens. And, of course, we strive to mitigate these problems. But we will not deviate from our principles,” said the Finnish minister.
Earlier it became known that those living in Helsinki Russians spent there is a rally at the Finnish parliament against the closure of checkpoints on the border with the Russian Federation. At 12:00 (13:00 Moscow time) no more than three hundred people participated in the event.
Since November 18, Finland has closed four checkpoints on the border with Russia – Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra and Niirala. The restriction will be in effect until February 18, 2024. The country’s government has not ruled out the complete closure of borders between countries.
